Marel’s theme this year—‘smarter processing’—is reflected in the high level of automation and robotization being demonstrated.
Popular demos
The main attraction at Marel’s stand so far is automated robot packing. First shown at the Whitefish ShowHow in September 2017 as part of the second generation FleXicut automatic pinbone removal and portioning system, robot packing automates the process even further.
A highlight for salmon processors today has been the demonstration of quality scanning of salmon fillets—after trimming or skinning—with the new Quality Scanner. Registering various traits and defects gives processors better control of the quality and size of each fillet and makes it easier to sort fillets downstream.
Visitors have also grabbed the chance to step into a smarter processing factory today with the VR experience of an advanced whitefish processing facility at Marel’s stand.
Smarter processing
The Marel stand is geared towards showcasing how automation, robotization and data management can best prepare seafood processors for today’s hi-tech processing reality.
In additional to demonstrations of equipment, seafood processors in all segments have been exploring how Innova Food Processing Software can help them improve the way they manage and monitor production. Making the best use of data helps processors gain competitive advantage through full production control and traceability.
