Solution

Whole salmon Handling, Distribution, Grading and Packing system

  • Seamless product flow improves performance
  • Dynamic and accurate weight grading of each fish
  • Shortens processing time
  • Provides full traceability

Information

With the highly innovative and automated process, whole salmon flow seamlessly from slaughtering to processing and final dispatch. The system’s flexible processing capacity means processors can manage seasonal and order highs and lows without the pressure to increase or decrease their workforce.

The system covers the infeed for the gutting, along with distribution, grading and the packing after gutting. After the fish have been gutted, they enter the distribution system for individually weighing and quality grading. The fish are then delivered to the packing grader where they are automatically packed into boxes according to weight, quality, and orders, or delivered into the fillet processing area. With single or dual-lane options available, processors can be sure of high throughput and flexibility to adjust systems as needed.

Marel offers two optional solutions for manual infeed in front of the packing grader, either with inline or sideload infeed. At the infeed stations operators can inspect the fish before feeding them into the packing grader.

Software

Real-time monitoring with Marel Software

The entire system is powered by Marel’s production control software, providing in-depth data and managerial control at every production stage.

Marel Food Processing Software controls the distribution and grading process by setting up grading programs. It provides a comprehensive real-time reporting function that gives the operator a complete overview of the production process. Real-time data generates reports on weight distribution, average weights, a packing overview and packing list, as well as the standard overview and lists. This data can be viewed via dashboards.

Based on these valuable KPIs provided by the software you can make intelligent decisions on how to optimize your grading and batching results.

When the optional dynamic order control is used, the grader can be controlled by orders to optimize the utilization of the grader gates according to size, quality, and orders. This means that the grader will grade and batch according to the order which is assigned to the grader and dynamically allocate as needed.

The system can include empty box weighing, takeaway with integrated checkweigher, lid applicator, automatic ice dozer and labeling according to order. Production control software will give real-time status of the packing process and estimated end results based on size and quality distribution.
